Diego is a dynamic and interesting city and the second largest in
California. Discovered in 1542 by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, it's a city rich
in Spanish, Mexican and American history and opportunities for exploration.
From historic Old Town to modern day attractions like the Reuben H. Fleet
Space Theater and Science Center - San Diego offers something for everyone.
The
waterfront of San Diego County features the best of what makes the
California lifestyle famous. From beach volleyball to surfing, sail boat
charters to SCUBA diving, you'll find it all within a very short distance of
the conference site on Shelter Island.
San Diego is arguably one of the world's
greatest golf destinations. More than 65 courses are available in the
surrounding area most within 30 - 45 minutes of the conference hotel. Year
round temperate climate, with an average winter temperature of 65 degrees,
makes San Diego an ideal location for even the most discerning golf
enthusiasts.
The
conference site is just a very short drive from both Sea World and the San
Diego Zoo. Within an hour's drive, you can spend the day at San Diego Wild
Animal Park. Other great places to visit include Cabrillo National Monument,
and the Palomar Observatory. All of them world class attractions that will
make your visit to San Diego a memorable one.
In addition March is the time of the is the
great migration of the California Grey Whale and whale watching tours are
available at reasonable prices.
Just thirty minutes from The Shelter Pointe
Hotel and Marina, you can spend the day exploring the enchanting village of
La Jolla. It's a unique upscale enclave with dozens of interesting shops and
galleries to browse and explore. It is also home to a number of interesting
and unique attractions that draw visitors from around the world. The
University of California San Diego, Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of
Oceanography, The Chopra Center for Well Being and the La Jolla Playhouse
all call La Jolla Home.

Within a short drive, you will find a whole

metropolitan area.
